Event Name: Georgina Spring Fling
Date: May 4, 2025
Location: Georgina, Ontario
Synopsis: A well-organized, small-town race along a relatively flat course along Lake Simcoe

Briefly describe the overall venue & course: For the marathon, it’s an out-and-back twice along the road the follows the lakeshore. There are no hills but there are some slight elevations. It’s not the most interesting course due to the out-and-back but it does give you 4 opportunities during the marathon to pick out your favorite cottage (some huge mansions) along the way (I really like the blue and white one). And the views by the lake are very nice on a sunny day – which we were fortunate to have.
What was provided at the aid stations? There are plenty of aid stations where Gatorade and water is on offer. They do not give anything else, no gels or fruit. It’s clearly mentioned in their pre-race emails.
How was the weather? The weather was perfect. Sunny and near 5 degrees Celsius at the start. It warmed just enough to keep us comfortable and the slight breeze off the lake was ideal.

My Race Experience: Small town races are fun, and the organizers and volunteers really do put in the effort to make this an enjoyable experience.
This was my second time running this race. I first participated in the Fall edition in 2022, and the course remains the same for the Spring Fling edition.
I am glad I ran it this year if only for the ideal weather and the relatively flat course. There are more interesting courses out there but in Georgina, there are enough distractions along the lake to keep you engaged. If you’re looking for a flat and simple course, this is it.

Would you do this event again? Yes. I’ve run it twice and would consider going back sometime in the future. After running it the first time, I wasn’t considering going back but I’m glad I did. The organization and the volunteers are excellent.
Would you recommend this event? I do recommend this race but keep in mind, it’s a no-frills, small-town race. The cost of registration is reasonable and includes a tech shirt and finish medal. It’s well organized.
Closing thoughts. Any hints for others planning to do this race? Where to stay? Things to bring? What to wear? Lodging is expensive in Georgina, so book as far in advance as you can but expect to pay more than other cities. I stayed at a tiny motel a few kilometres from the start line and paid $250 + tax per night. I had booked it well in advance.
The weather this year was excellent, and a singlet or t-shirt and shorts was perfect. The wait before the race was chilly so plan to bring something to keep you warm before the start as there are no buildings or structure in which to stay warm. I had a dollar store plastic poncho, and it was more than enough.
Bring your own nutrition. However, there is no need to carry your own hydration, unless you have very specific needs. There were plenty of aid stations along the course.
